Prohibition and Free State Tour:
8pm.
Learn about Galveston’s Free State period
of history while enjoying Prohibition
cocktails at five local bars. Each stop
will include a topic about bootlegging,
gambling, or prostitution and will be
made on a climate controlled transit van.
The price only includes the tour. Guests
must be 21 years of age or older and are
responsible for bar tabs and gratuity.
The tour departs from DTO, located at
2701 Market Street. $15 per person.

Sin City of the South Tour:
4-5pm.
Take an hour long driving tour and
discover Galveston’s free state period
in a comfortable, climate controlled 14
passenger transit van. Sites on the tour
include Rum Row, the site of the Balinese
Room, and the Red Light District. The
tour departs from Ashton Villa, 2328
Broadway. $15 per person. Reservations

AUGUST 5
Sandcastle Day:
8am–4pm. This free
event will begin with an instructor
building a sandcastle from 8-11am
followed by
lessons at 11am, 1pm and
3pm. Equipment will be provided on a
limited basis. Participants are encouraged
to bring their own sand buckets and
shovels. Registration is not required. The
lessons will take place on the sand near
the Stewart Beach Pavilion, 201 Seawall
Blvd. Entry to event is free. Parking at
Stewart Beach costs $15 per car.
Movie Night on The Strand:
7:30pm.
The featured movie is
The Secret Life of
Pets
and is about a terrier named Max
whose quiet life is upended when his
owner takes in Duke, a stray whom Max
instantly dislikes. Grab your chairs and
blankets. Held at Saengerfest Park, corner
of 23rd Street and Strand. Free
AUGUST 6
Navy Band Cruisers:
3pm. Join The Grand
in welcoming the Navy Band Cruisers,
a contemporary music ensemble,
performing a free concert featuring
musical styles ranging from jazz and
standards, rhythm & blues, classic rock,
adult contemporary and pop as well
as original material. Held at The Grand

Ocean Star Discover Family Day:
10am-3pm
.
The theme for August is
“Needle Through a Balloon.” A bamboo
skewer coated with petroleum jelly
demonstrates the elasticity of polymers
when pushed through a balloon. Locate
the areas on the balloon that can be
stretched, allowing the skewer to
penetrate through the balloon without
it popping. Held at Ocean Star Offshore
Drilling Rig Museum, 1900 Harborside Dr.
Children 18 and under free, with paying

Geocaching 101:
1-2pm.
Learn how to
find hidden treasure within the park and
around the globe with this short, activity-
based program about geocaching.
The one hour program consists of
games, activities, and short hike. Held
at Galveston Island State Park Nature
Center, 14901 FM 3005. Park Fee is $5,
free to anyone under 13 years.
Music Night on The Strand:
6-9pm. This
free concert features Campfire Soul with
Zach Person for a night full of Blues/R&B.
Grab your chairs and blankets. Held at
the corner of 23rd Street and Strand at
Saengerfest Park. Free
AUGUST 20
Galveston Family Beach Challenge:
11am-5pm. Families are invited to go
head to head in a series of competitions
including giant Jenga, sack races and
more – all to win some fantastic prizes.
This event is free to the public and
structured for groups of four people.
The family with the most points at the
end of the day will receive a $500 gift
card, plus tickets to island attractions.
Held at Stewart Beach, 201 Seawall

AUGUST 26
ArtWalk:
6-9pm. This event takes place
in existing commercial galleries, non-
profit art spaces, and select restaurants
and retail stores. Held in the downtown
historic district and other parts of the
east end of the Island. Find a brochure

“Dixie’s Tupperware Party”:
8pm.
Dixie Longate is America’s most famous
Tupperware Lady. Rising through
the ranks to become one of the top
Tupperware sellers in the US, Dixie
decided to parley her skills into a live
stage show and this hilarious one-person
comedy has become one of the most
successful off-Broadway tours of the last
decade. Held at The Grand 1894 Opera
