JULY 2017
Things To Do • People To Know • Places To Go
Around the
Island
Mere days after celebrating the third anniversary of their
opening on June 17, Galveston Island Brewing was recognized by
the popular review website Yelp as one of the top 13 breweries
in the nation. The article, compiled by Yelp blogger Abby
Schwarz who works for the website as an Associate Regional
Lead, chose one brewery for every week of summer from
brewery listings that span from the east to the west coast and
everywhere in between.
Coming in at number 10 on the list, Galveston Island Brewing’s
mention included a nod to Galveston as a premiere Texas
destination and celebrated not only the brewery’s widely
enjoyed and creative craft brews, but also the “laid-back island
vibe” of the sprawling grounds that are both dog- and kid-
friendly.
A mere three years ago, a small brewery opened on the west
portion of Stewart Road with barely enough inventory to fill one
wall of the warehouse and only a handful of taps on the wall of
the adjacent bar. Since then, the creativity and quality of owner
Mark Dell’Osso’s island-brewed beers have become a widely-
known local favorite and are now distributed to seventeen
surrounding counties.
Last month, Galveston Island Brewing also brought home
several top awards from the Best Little Brewfest in Texas
Professional Brewers Competition. Their Citra Mellow was
awarded Gold in the American Pale category, Belgian Pale won
Gold for best Belgian Beer, and Tiki Wheat won Silver in the
American Wheat competition.
Galveston Island Brewing is located at 8423 Stewart Road. The
tap-room is open Monday through Friday from 4pm-10pm and
12pm-midnight on the weekends. They offer a family-friendly
venue with an outdoor area complete with playground and
“sundown seats” for enjoying stunning Galveston sunsets. Call
