JULY 4
Independence Day Parade and
Fireworks:
7:30pm. Galveston Island will
celebrate its annual Independence Day
with a parade featuring a procession of
floats, decorated military vehicles and
performers. The parade will kick off at
7:30pm with a procession on Seawall
Boulevard starting at 59th Street and
ending at 22nd Street.  After the parade,
a 20-minute fireworks show over the Gulf
of Mexico will begin at 9:15pm near 37th
Street and Seawall Boulevard. Free

Ocean Star Discover Family Day:
10am-
3pm

The theme for July is Rigs to Reefs.
Learn what happens to platforms when
they are no longer used to produce
offshore oil and gas. In some cases, they
apply and are accepted into the Rigs to
Reef program, where they are converted
into artificial reef habitats. Create a
Deep Sea porthole –a unique view of
an amazing underwater habitat. Held at
Ocean Star Offshore Drilling Rig Museum,
1900 Harborside Dr. Children 18 and
under free, with paying chaperone.

Geocaching 101:
1-2pm.
Learn how to
find hidden treasure within the park and
around the globe with this short, activity-
based program about geocaching.
The one hour program consists of
games, activities, and short hike. Held
at Galveston Island State Park Nature
Center, 14901 FM 3005. Park Fee is $5,
free to anyone under 13 years.
Free East Beach Concert:
4-6:30pm.
Austin-based country music band The
Derailers will bring their classic country
beats and Rockabilly tunes to the stage
for this free concert. Held at East Beach,
1923 Boddeker. Park entrance fee
required.
Music Night on The Strand:
6-9pm. This
free concert features country music
singer Jason James. Grab your chairs
and blankets. Held at the corner of 23rd
Street and Strand at Saengerfest Park.

Bishop’s Palace Full Moon Tour:
8-9:30pm. Experience Bishop’s Palace
in a whole new light, the moonlight.
This special tour lets visitors explore
the National Historic Landmark and
see how this architectural gem takes
on a completely different look in the
moonlight. Held at 1892 Bishop’s
Palace, 1402 Broadway. $30 per person.

JULY 9
Ezra Charles: “The Story of Boogie
Woogie”:
3pm. Join Ezra Charles as
he weaves through the history of this
bouncing, jiving piano format with
sparkling performances of boogie woogie
piano standards, accompanied by his son
Jakob on percussion. Held at The Grand
1894 Opera House, 2020 Postoffice.

JULY 15
ArtWalk:
6-9pm. This event takes place
in existing commercial galleries, non-
profit art spaces, and select restaurants
and retail stores. Held in the downtown
historic district and other parts of the
east end of the Island. Find a brochure

Prohibition and Free State Tour:
8pm.
Learn about Galveston’s Free State period
of history while enjoying Prohibition
cocktails at five local bars. Each stop
will include a topic about bootlegging,
