Connie Watt to Speak at Women’s Conference
10 Outstanding Women to Be Honored
The 10
th
Annual Conference Celebrating
Women: Mind, Body, Spirit, hosted by the
Galveston Chamber of Commerce will be
held Thursday, April 6, at Moody Gardens
Convention Center.
Connie Watt, the proud mother of
Houston Texan J. J. Watt, Derek Watt,
fullback for the San Diego Chargers,
and T.J. Watt, outside linebacker for the
Wisconsin Badgers, will speak about her
success with instilling the basic character
traits of accountability, teamwork,
leadership, work ethic, and perseverance in her sons, while nurturing
her tight-knit family.
Celebrating the Conference’s 10
th
Anniversary, the Chamber will
honor 10 Outstanding Texas Women. These women have had a
positive impact on our community at large and have touched each of
us in many ways. Their fields are diverse, their contributions immense
and they serve as role models for future generations.
Other speakers include author and actress Marilu Henner; Susan
Peters, UnBound; Dr. Kelly Dineley, Associate Professor, UTMB Health
Mitchell Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases, Sealy Center of
Aging; Dr. Karen Spurgeon Welch, UTMB Department of Family
Medicine; and Andrea Wirt, RN, UTMB Health Department of Internal
Medicine, Division of Geriatrics.

includes light breakfast, snacks and beverages, lunch, speakers, fitness

Open auditions for the Missoula Children’s Theatre
production of
Aladdin
will be held on Monday, March 27 at
4:30pm at The Grand 1894 Opera House in Galveston. There
are roles for students
in Kindergarten
through High School
Seniors.
Approximately 50-60
local students will be
cast to appear in the
show with the MCT
Tour Actor/Director.
There is no guarantee
that everyone who
auditions will be cast in the play. Students wishing to audition
must arrive by the scheduled starting time and stay for the
entire two-hour session. This is a group audition - no advance
preparation is necessary.
Rehearsals will be conducted every day from 4:30pm to
8:30pm at The Grand 1894 Opera House in Galveston. The
performances will be held on Saturday April 1, 2017 at 11am
and 1pm and will be presented on stage at The Grand.
The Missoula Children’s Theatre is a non-profit organization
based in Missoula, Montana. This coming year more than
65,000 cast members across the globe will take to the
stage to the delight and applause of their families, friends,
community, neighbors and teachers. The residency in
Galveston is made possible by The Grand 1894 Opera House
with help from our Serious Fun Children’s Series Sponsors.

Holy Family Parish will host their annual St. Patrick’s Day Festival on Saturday,
March 18 from 11am to 10pm, but the celebration will actually begin the
evening prior, when the Holy Family Parish welcomes Cardinal DiNardo to Mass
on Friday, March 17 at 5pm at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church (1010 35
th
Street).
“We’re honored for His Eminence to join our celebration this year,” says Fr. E.J.
Stein, OFM, Pastor of the parish. The Cardinal will also be on hand for a meet
and greet after the service, which will then be followed by “Dinner in Dublin” at
the Garten Verein (tickets are available at the parish office).
On Saturday, the family-friendly St. Patrick’s Day Festival provides hours of fun
with a photo booth, games, and activities for all ages. Located on 34
th
Street
between Broadway and Avenue K., the festival will also feature a cake wheel,
food trucks, live music and entertainment, a live auction, and a car raffle.
Everybody is Irish on this weekend—let’s turn this island green!
