Upon entering MiArt gallery, visitors first notice the graceful, historic charm,
and next they fully understand why most of MiArt’s patrons call this a happy
place. The colorful, often whimsical paintings on the walls are magnetic,
radiating with a vibrant, positive energy that is palpable. This is precisely what
Michele Grindberg, gallery owner and artist, aspires to achieve. “Art can make
you happy. Every time you look at it your spirit is uplifted,” she says. Other
exhibits, such as Mary Ann Hasty’s clay pieces and Janie Katz’ little metal
creatures, have the same cheerful feel. All natural handmade soaps, “spa in a
jar,” and unique handcrafted sterling jewelry are sure to please as well.

Local artist Jennifer Peck’s upcoming
show,
Home is Where the Heart Is
, opens
at J Bangle Gallery on March 4th. Jennifer
has created a collection of mixed media
works for Galveston collectors from
island street maps and cut out images
collaged on top of decorative papers.
These new pieces have a delightful
abstract quality and are made entirely
out of layers of paper featuring the
Island neighborhoods and typical stilt
houses. The works have a feeling of
warmth and welcome, with joyful
homes amongst blowing palms and flying
gulls. J Bangle will offer small unframed
prints of these uniquely Galveston pieces,
as well as many of Jennifer’s coastal
originals and limited edition giclées on
canvas and paper.
