“The Beagles” by matt rinard
Arts on Mechanic showcases a variety of works from local, regional and
nationally known artists. Along with original works, reproductions of some
featured artists works are available. Also featured is a wide variety of signed and
numbered prints by nationally known artists such as Matt Rinard, Eric Dowdle
and Tom W. Freeman. Unique and whimsical clay dog sculptures by New Orleans
artist Chris Menconi are also available. Other artists represented at the gallery
include John Barber, J. Howard, Gabe Prusmack, Mike Quinn, J. A. Soukup, David
Crump, Karen Calhoun, Michael Breitsameter and jewelry by Jana Garcia.

The month of May continues Third Coast Gallery’s fantastic
exhibit of visiting artist Mark Nesmith of Beaumont. Mark is
well-known for his stunning depictions of the Texas coast and
waterways, often embellished with images of graceful, native
waterfowl. Third Coast Gallery also includes the works of artist
and gallery owner Jack Morris alongside their newest resident
artist, Shanti Harrington.

Tyler Studio is a Fine Art Gallery located on the corner of 12th Street and
Postoffice in the heart of the charming Historic East End Historical District.
Housed in a space that was originally built as a pharmacy and corner
store in 1893, the building itself provides a delightful experience that is
amplified even further by the beautiful works of art and handmade jewelry.
Currently, the works of local artist Carl Noone are on display along with the
talents of the gallery’s permanent artists: Sallie Anderson, Ruth Downes,
Randall Cogburn, Mike Tyler, Sue Bown, Loretta Trevino, and Susan Tyler.

Galveston Art League’s Annual Spring Juried Show is currently on exhibit
through Sunday, May 28. Unlike the membership shows held nine times
per year, the juried show features the works of both members and non-
members from throughout the area. Entries represent a spectrum of
genres, and awards are given in five categories with one piece receiving
the highest award of Best in Show. Judging the 2017 show was Liz Hill, a
contemporary collage and mixed media artist and teacher. The League, a
non-profit organization, was formed in 1914 to promote art and artists in
the Galveston area and has done so for over one hundred years.
