Ocean Star Discover Family Day:
10am-3pm

The theme this
month is
Life on a Rig
. Step aboard the
Ocean Star
and learn
about the different kinds of offshore structures, what they do,
and who works on them. Come search the museum to discover
more about these vehicles at sea--see what you would look
like as an offshore oil worker, try on safety gear, explore the
old control room and participate in a scavenger hunt during
your visit. Held at Ocean Star Offshore Drilling Rig Museum,
1900 Harborside Dr. Children 18 and under free, with paying

Geocaching 101:
1-2pm.
Learn how to find hidden treasure
within the park and around the globe with this short, activity-
based program about geocaching. The one hour program
consists of games, activities, and short hike. Held at Galveston
Island State Park Nature Center, 14901 FM 3005. Park Fee is $5,
free to anyone under 13 years.
Music Night on The Strand:
6-9pm. This free concert features
The Fab 5, a Beatles tribute band. Grab your chairs and
blankets. Held at the corner of 23rd Street and Strand at
Saengerfest Park. Free
ArtWalk:
6-9pm. This event takes place in existing commercial
galleries, non-profit art spaces, and select restaurants and retail
stores. Held in the downtown historic district and other parts of
the east end of the Island. Find a brochure listing participants at

Galveston Island Market:
10am-4pm. Open air market centered
at 23rd and Mechanic in downtown Galveston, just one block
off The Strand. All items hand made or designed and made by
small local craftspeople. Free

Fiestas Patrias:
11am-5pm. Celebrate Fiestas Patrias, a free
family event, with Comite de Negocios, a business task force
of the Galveston Regional Chamber of Commerce. Mexican
Marketplace featuring Ballet Folklorico, Mariachis, DJ, food,
lemonade, piñatas, vendors, and entertainment. Held at the
corner of 23rd Street and Strand at Saengerfest Park. Free
SEPTEMBER 16-17
Ronnie Milsap Farewell Tour:
This is your final opportunity to
experience the Legend Ronnie Milsap as his farewell tour stops
in Galveston for two shows on Saturday, September 16 at 8pm
and Sunday, September 17 at 3pm. Held at The Grand 1894

Chita & Tune: Two for the Road:
8pm. This unique concert
event pairs two of Broadway’s most revered legends, Chita
Rivera and Tommy Tune, who collectively have won 12 Tony
Awards. Held at The Grand 1894 Opera House, 2020 Postoffice.

Galveston Island Shrimp Festival:
New and fresh concepts for
the 2017 event includes expanding the Gumbo Cook-off Area to
allow for more teams and vendors to participate in the Festival;
also, the Shrimp Scamper Official 5K Run has transformed
into a beachfront 5K with a timing feature and route along
the beautiful shoreline of Galveston Island in the sand. Held
at the corner of 23rd Street and Strand at Saengerfest Park.

SEPTEMBER 30
Book Signing:
2-4pm. Galveston Bookshop will host a book
signing for author Elliott Turner and his debut novel, “The Night
of the Virgin.” The book is told in four parts of varying style
and points of view, providing a pulsating look at the Mexican-
American community’s struggles with poverty, alcoholism, and
